Clauss's stuff
FINAL PART II
After you have gotten the majority of the raw audio from your subjects the arduous process of editing can now take place. This part of the radio show takes the longest, but there are some gratifying parts also. Splicing audio is cool because you can make your interviewees sound smart by deleting all of the worthless stuff they say and keeping the worthy material. I agree with
Emilie about taking notes on places you want to delete and add in commentary; there is a lot of footage and having places marked will be a huge help. Placing music onto the audio tracks is some of my favorite work, sometimes the songs just coincide perfectly. I would suggest picking some obscure instrumental music, some of the ones we picked were Mum Mum, Whale Sounds of the North Atlantic and
Air This stuff is pretty trippy but well worth a listen. Once all of this starts to fit together, you need to adjust the voice and music settings.
Foster is the guru of this, he had a great ear for when music needed to come in and where it should shade out. Finally have a few listens to make sure that it all flows together. Hope you had fun.
FINAL PART II, I couldnt agree more with
Meghan on having previous knowledge about the subject that you are interviewing people about. You will feel like an idiot if you ask stupid questions to someone who knows more about the subjuct. Having a full knowledge of the subject matter will lead to better questions where you can get a true interview full of insightful information. Good music is also something that is definately needed to bring the whole interview together. Music can sent the mood, the tone, and breaks up the different intervwiews. We used music that is all instrumental. Weird Moby-like music, with odd names like, Mum Mum,
Air, and Whale Sounds of the North Atlantic. Sweet.
Whatever you do make sure that you do not work like this group
Group. they work way too slow, and recorded many useless hours of speech, but still have not gotten nearly as far as we have, even though we have spent a fraction of the time on an excellent radio show. Regardless, make sure you have fun with the radio show, there so many fun things that you can do with a radio show. Make sure you have an upbeat personality when you do the interviews, and your subjects will reciprocate. Have fun.
